Projet Fiondo was founded in 2025 by Jean Luc and Rebekah Kalambayi to honour the life and legacy of their mother, Marie-Jeanne Mbuyi Tshuinza Kalambayi—a woman who dedicated herself to family, her local community, her passion for education, and her faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The work of Projet Fiondo currently centres around the Kalambayis’ ancestral village in Mande, Lomami Province. This rural community is located about 100km southeast of one of DR Congo’s most densely populated cities, Mbuji-Mayi.
Projet Fiondo is a community development initiative designed to help address the interconnected challenges of food insecurity, limited access to quality education, inadequate basic health services, and weak income-generating opportunities.
Despite its fertile land, strong social cohesion, and predominantly young population, Lomami remains one of the most underserved regions in the country. Poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to essential social services continue to affect the well-being and long-term prospects of rural communities like Mande.
Projet Fiondo aims to help address these challenges by working with community leaders in Mande to strengthen agricultural and livestock production, improve access to education and vocational skills, enhance community health and nutrition, and support economic empowerment.
We are advocates for community-centred development, where the local community in Mande takes charge of planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation — with strategic opportunities to learn from subject-matter experts, as well as other rural communities that are tackling their own challenges in innovative ways. We believe a community-centred approach ensures ownership, relevance, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
The goal is for Projet Fiondo to directly benefit smallholder farmers, women, youth, and school-aged children, while indirectly strengthening Mande and its neighbouring communities.
